Forward Simone Charley was acquired by Angel City Football Club (ACFC) through a trade with the Portland Thorns on December 8, 2021, after appearing in 20 matches and tallying five goals for Portland in 2021. From 2019-to 2020, she played for W-League team Canberra United in Australia, where she scored five goals in 11 games. In 2019, Charley was named to the U.S. U-23 Women's National Team roster for the Nordic Tournament and scored in a 2-0 win over Norway. After a personal invite from Head Coach Mark Parsons in 2018 to try out for the Portland Thorns, Charley made the team and appeared in 11 games with six starts during her first season. She was named First Team All-SEC during her sophomore season, All-South Region First Team and Second Team All-SEC during her junior season, and Second Team All-Southeast Region along with Second Team All-SEC during her final season as a graduate student in 2017. As a freshman, Charley was named to the SEC All-Freshman Team, was the team’s top returning scorer (five goals and 15 points), tied for the team-high in assists (five), and played in the first 17 games of the season, while starting 16 of them along with being a dual-sport athlete in soccer and track and field in her time at Vanderbilt.
